Trade Secrets
He popped the question and you said (probably very
excitedly) YES! You may have even shed a few tears. With the excitement building
and the tears gone, you are ready to plan your special day. But, what you may
not know is your relationship is about to undergo one of the hardest tests ever.
You are probably asking, what is she talking about? Weddings are fun. Right?
There are the parties… the presents… and fights over what color is really
better, ivory or off white.
Oh yes, if you haven’t already found out,
planning a wedding can be overwhelming. Why? Well, several factors come into
play which cause a lot of unnecessary stress and most couples never realize it
until it’s too late. But, by recognizing the warning signs before they
surprise you, you can make planning your wedding much more enjoyable.
This is probably the first wedding you’ve
ever planned. Not knowing where to start, or how, what, when, and where to go
get what you want for your wedding can be stressful. To cure this, question
friends, a few wedding professionals you respect, or pick up a book at your
local bookstore. I suggest the Bride’s Book of Etiquette from the
editors of Bride’s magazine.
Weddings bring out the best and worst emotions
in everybody involved. Before you argue over chair covers or no chair covers,
determine: A. If it’s really that important B. if it’s really the
issue that is upsetting you. If it is not, deal with the underlying problem
and move on.
Planning your wedding can become a full time
job. Don’t get so wrapped up in the details that you forget about enjoying
yourself. Schedule time for just the two of you. On your wedding day, before
you head to the reception site, set aside 10-15 minutes when the two of you
can relax and talk alone. More than likely, you won’t have another chance
until the end of the night when both of you are too exhausted. Trust me, your
guests will understand.
